SAN ANTONIO -- Getting more fit is on just about everyone's New Year's resolution list, and experts say walking is one of best options to help get you there.

We asked which walking trail you think is the best in San Antonio and you sent in your nominations. The top four...

  • Mission Reach
  • McAllister Park
  • Friedrich Wilderness Park
  • Government Canyon State Natural Area

You voted and only one could be crowned as the Best of SA. So take a leisurely stroll with us as we congratulate Mission Reach as the best walking trail in the city!

“The community has really responded very well to the trails,” said Suzanne Scott from the San Antonio River Authority. “Over the last year or so we’ve opened up several sections of the project – and more and more people are getting out to the river and really seeing how beautiful this restored Mission Reach has become.”

Mission Reach is a nine-mile restoration project along the San Antonio River from the King William District to Mission Espada. It includes hiking and biking trails, water paddling and pavilions for you to hold events.

“The other thing people are finding very interesting is the seasonal changes that are occurring on the trail,” Scott told News 4 WOAI. “We’ve been restoring the entire ecosystem and making sure the vegetation that’s in that area is more natural. We’ve had beautiful displays of wildflowers during the springtime.”

The city already has major plans for the remaining three miles.

“We are going to be looking at the potential for vendors to have the rental of canoes or fishing equipment or other things like that,”

The project will be completely done by Labor Day.
