Attorney under investigation blasted by former client
By: Jennifer Saucedo
SAN ANTONIO -- A local attorney at the heart of an alleged courthouse corruption investigation is blasted by a former client.
A San Antonio man claims Al Acevedo didn't do his job.
Acevedo is the attorney under investigation for allegedly giving gifts and bribes to judges and others in exchange for favors with his cases.
Travis Mendiola claims he was the first person to contact the FBI about Al Acevedo.
Now, he's calling out his former attorney in hopes of getting his reputation restored.
"Albert Acevedo is the devil in person," said Mendiola outside a courtroom. "If anybody else has got burn by this man, come forward now."
Mendiola is a former client of Acevedo. He's accusing Acevedo of not doing a good job as his lawyer.
Back in 2010, Mendiola was found guilty of waving a gun at his brother. He said he's innocent and Acevedo failed to call two eyewitness that prove his innocence at his first trial.
Today, Mendiola was back in court asking a judge for a new trial because of "ineffective counsel" by Acevedo.
Mendiola's attorney wanted Acevedo to testify but they say he could not be found to be served for a subpoena.
A judge is expected to make a ruling in Mendiola's request in a few weeks.
